Info

Many people who live in Kenya's poorest areas are affected by disease and ill health everyday due to their poor sanitation and living conditions.

Centres have been erected in all of the worst hit areas with doctor and dentist facilities to handle the constant surge of sick people. Volunteers are given the opportunity to work in these centres diagnosing and treating sick patients. The facilities they have for dentistry are also surprisingly good offering a great service to the community at a very low cost.

Why The Need For Volunteers?
The clinics have approximately 14 members per clinic with overwhelming numbers visiting on a day to day basis. As a result they are always short of help and would really appreciate every form of help they can get. It is also a great ground to give back to one of the poorest communities in the world. Students who would like hands-on experience would also benefit from this noble work. Qualified doctors also practice on tropical ailments and the HIV/AIDS pandemic which might not be prevalent in their own countries.

Volunteers Activities
Volunteers are be required to participate in all areas of work listed above. Each centre requires volunteers to assist them in the day to day running operations. Volunteers will be working with the local communities in some of Nairobi's poorest areas. Each centre specialises in certain medical areas and volunteers are assigned a centre according to their skills. Most volunteers also get the chance to work on a rotation system between all of the different centres within Nairobi. Some volunteers get sent to Mwingi which is a town in Eastern Kenya and is in desperate need of food and water. Volunteers are required to work with the feeding programs and borehole work.

The Required Skills
Volunteers are required to have skills within the medical field. Whether it be a nurse, in the dental field or a doctor. Volunteers without these skills are also welcome as there is plenty of work at the centres. Medical skills help, and it is likely you will be able to get more involved with the project and be able to act in more complex fields of the organisation if you are trained in this profession.

Local Facilities
This project is situated in various suburbs of Nairobi which is the capital and largest city in Kenya. It has all amenities you need including banks, post offices and supermarkets, cinemas & many more recreational activities. There is a good transport network of minivans (Matatu’s) as they are locally known, buses and plenty of taxis. There is also a centre based in Mwingi, Eastern Kenya. If you choose to be based here there are very limited facilities in the area as it is situated in a very rural area of Kenya.

Trip Highlights
You are given the opportunity to make a real contribution and help change lives of people in Kenya. Experience the hustle & bustle of Kenya's urban life and explore the gateway to East Africa. Whilst in Nairobi why not jump on board a Safari trip and experience the wild side to Africa.
